Commander in Chief's (CinC) Annual Award for Installation Excellence
2023 Department of Defense Fire and Emergency Services Awards
  • DoD Announces Winners of the 2023 DoD Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) Awards
    The annual DoD F&ES Awards honor Military Service and Defense Agency fire departments, fire officers, and firefighters for their exceptional achievements in emergency response, customer service, public outreach, innovativeness, quality-of-life initiatives, and health and safety initiatives. The Military Services and Defense Agencies may submit one nomination for each of the nine award categories. A panel of fire chiefs from all the Military Services evaluated 41 nominations to help determine the 2023 winners. The nine winners are:
    • DoD Fire Department of the Year – Small Category: 90th Civil Engineer Squadron, F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyoming
    • DoD Fire Department of the Year – Medium Category: Commander Fleet Activities Yokosuka, Japan
    • DoD Fire Department of the Year – Large Category: 99th Civil Engineer Squadron, Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada
    • DoD Fire Prevention Program of the Year: Marine Corps Installations Pacific, Okinawa, Japan
    • DoD Military Firefighter of the Year: Aviation Boatswain’s Mate Aircraft Handler First Class Petty Officer Anna Perez, Naval Support Activity Naples, Italy
    • DoD Civilian Firefighter of the Year: Jeffry Frawley, Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth, Texas
    • DoD Military Fire Officer of the Year: Senior Master Sergeant Michael E. Nalley Jr., Joint Base San Antonio, Texas
    • DoD Civilian Fire Officer of the Year: Deputy Fire Chief Adam Montoya, U.S. Army Garrison Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany
    • DoD Fire Service Instructor of the Year: Interim Training Chief Tobias Lang, U.S. Army Garrison Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany

Secretary of Defense Environmental Awards
  • DoD Announces Winners of the 2024 Secretary of Defense Environmental Awards
    The Department has honored installations, teams, and individuals each year since 1962 for outstanding achievements in DoD environmental programs. The Military Services and Defense Agencies may submit one nomination for each of the nine award categories. A diverse panel of 47 judges from Federal and state agencies, academia, and the private sector evaluated 31 nominations to help determine the 2024 winners. The nine winners are:
    • Natural Resources Conservation, Small Installation: Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota
    • Natural Resources Conservation, Individual/Team: Mr. Hugo Cobos, Kadena Air Base, Japan
    • Environmental Quality, Non-Industrial Installation: Eglin Air Force Base, Florida
    • Environmental Quality, Individual/Team: Guam Environmental Quality Team, Marine Corps Base Camp Blaz, Guam
    • Sustainability, Industrial Installation: Tobyhanna Army Depot, Pennsylvania
    • Environmental Restoration, Installation: Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Maine
    • Environmental Restoration, Individual/Team: Environmental Restoration Team, Vieques Naval Installation, Puerto Rico
    • Cultural Resources Management, Large Installation: Hill Air Force Base, Utah
    • Environmental Excellence in Weapon Systems Acquisition, Individual/Team: F-35 Lightning II Environmental, Safety, and Occupational Health Team, Maryland
